Languedoc SE 161 Junkers 290 Aircraft recognition model
This is a metal Aircraft recognition model (silhouette / spotter). 380mm wide x 330mm long.
The Department of Air commissioned these to train pilots and air force personnel to identify 'friend from foe'. The spotters needed to be able to identify aircraft from any angle and quickly because every second could count. They learnt the shapes of hundreds of aircraft and saved thousands of lives.
This aircraft is 1:72 scale and following it's military service it entered the collection of the Australian Airforce Museum. In 1959 the collection was lent to the Powerhouse Museum until the 1990s before being returned to the Airforce Museum which subsequently closed in 2019 and the collection being purchased by Bloodworth Bellamy. More than a dozen of this collection of spotting models are available to view at the Powerhouse Museum in Store 3 at the Museums Discovery Centre.
This is a piece of history and we only have one of this model in stock. They make beautiful objects for the home or office and have thus far proved very popular with architects and designers who appreciate the simplicity of the aircraft design and manufacture.
